THE COASTAL TRACK
Explore Another Side of Sydney with Coastal Hiking Tours
Tracing the coast through the Royal National Park, this salt-swept bush track leads walkers through a world of dramatic cliffs, waterfalls, swimming holes and seasonal wildflowers.
Unfortunately, due to the recent and indefinite closure of the Bonny Vale Campground, the Coastal Track tour will not be running at this time. Freeland Hiking Co. will endeavour to continue to update guests about any future dates for this tour in 2019.
We sincerely apologise for any inconvenience.
Starting just one hour south of Sydney, this one-way journey from Bundeena to Otford follows a moderate trail skirting the edge of the Royal National Park, founded in 1879 as Australia's first - and the world's second - national park.
Amidst salt spray and the ocean's thunder, Freeland Hiking Co. will take walkers atop spectacular cliffs, along unspoiled beaches, and across ancient plateaus, showcasing a range of terrain and vegetation.
Wearing day-packs only, this two-day tour is the ultimate weekend away to soak up the sunshine and explore Sydney's backyard in the beautiful Royal National Park.

Trail Notes and Grading for hiking tours through Royal National Park
The Coastal Track is a day-pack only walk. At the end of day one, guests will be transported by private charter to Bonnie Vale campground. The following morning, guests will return to Garie Beach, to continue along the Coastal Track. All camping equipment and personal items will be transported separately and securely to the campground at the end of day one and will be waiting for guests at the end of the track on day two.
The track within the Royal National Park is multi-terrain; with rock paths, coastal strolls, raised platform paths and shady bush tracks. Following a well-marked trail, your guides will lead you through many different landscapes offering an endless variety of vegetation, birdlife, and scenery.
The Coastal Track is a moderate experience, requiring an average level of fitness. The first day of the track is long (approximately 8 hrs. of hiking) and across uneven terrain. Day two requires a steady, but constant climb up to Otford. Guests are advised to prepare for this walk by undertaking their own training, such as shorter day hikes, or conducting regular functional gym training.
